What to do before we arrive
If you can smell burning or see smoke, switch off at the main switch on the consumer unit if it is safe to reach, and keep away from the affected area. If there is a fire, leave the building and call 999.
- Check whether it's just you. If your neighbours have also lost power, it's likely a network fault. Call 105, the free national power cut number, rather than an electrician.
- Check the consumer unit. If a switch has tripped, unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it once. If it trips again straight away, leave it off and call us.
- Don't touch anything wet. If water has got into electrics, turn off the power at the main switch if you can do so safely.
